Well, if you stay in school your entire life, it actually gets worse since everyone ends up knowing about it, springing surprises on you when you'd just as soon let it be...or at least that's my experience (which of course, beats having a real job in the real world without summer vacation...the lack of pay sucks at times though...drat).

are you a professor WT? I didn't realize. i've bonded with 2 teachers at my school who have an affinity for the dead. couldn't convince either of them to see furthur with me, though.

Yep, but don't tell ANYONE! The last thing I need is for my students to find out I actually spend all my time here (well, a little less now that I am retired) being supercilious (or am I really just a superdouche for my constant use of that word? You decide...). The last thing I need is for the hordes to know anything more about my eccentric personal life.

Imagine if they found out my best friends are Rob the Word Smith, a guy named Arbuthnot that gives me credenzas, and an Elbow? I'd never live it down.

However, it does allow me to get paid (a little bit) for being an "inte-lexual".

Well a wordsmith sounds intellectual and i believe Arbuthnot was a poet so keeping company with those two would seem acceptable for a professor. However rubbing elbows with an Elbow probably won't do your reputation any good. Then again it was students of mine (graduate) that took to calling me by my "rap" name "LBo" that is the origin of my name here. Word.
